Continuing our tradition from the last two years, we launched "The Road to China" again in 2016. The first half of our event provided a chance for alumni and current students to mingle and network. The panel discussion that followed featured alumni speakers from all industries with diverse career pursuits to share. At the end of the event, we had the opportunity to get this photo of all the tigers present - of all ages, backgrounds and career (or study) paths, but united with the same Princetonian spirit!

PAABJ, in collaboration with film producer & director, Sharon Deng '17, hosted a screening of "Paris, Ni Hao", a documentary exploring Chinese immigrant experience in France. On Saturday April 9th, fellow Princeton and Yale alumni gathered for an action-filled afternoon of CrossFit! CrossFit is a popular workout that helps people build functional strength in order to avoid pain or injury from daily activities. The event consisted of some basic training, a team workout, and a Q&A session with trainers. Exercises were tailored to individual level of fitness.

Our alumni social mixer with Harvard and Stanford was a success, with over 60 attendees relatively balanced across all three schools (both undergrad and graduate program alums attended). As our first social event of 2016, it was a great way to meet new faces in the Beijing community (and there were quite a few!) and discuss new ideas and opportunities for collaboration over the next year.

The event was part of a global Nepal RISE initiative. Original artwork, featuring donated pieces by professional photographers and artists along with Nepal-themed canvases created by the Beijing community were displayed and auctioned to raise funds for the Earthquake relief.

We were honored to host Kim Lee, a leader in the anti-domestic violence movement and one of the first high-profile women in China to speak out against abuse. Princeton’s world-famous a cappella group, “The Tigertones”, was in Beijing as part of their annual fall-break world tour. This was the first time that the Tigertones have come to Mainland China, and they offered to perform for Princeton alums in Beijing. The “Tones” performed a variety of songs from their new repertoire, which was followed by food and time to engage with the Tigertones as well as Princeton alums and friends.

2014.6.14. Charity Cooking Class to Benefit the Bread of Life

We organised an introductory cooking class and bake-sale for the benefit of the charity Bread of Life, a non-profit organisation run by physically disabled young adults, who have grown up in orphanages in China. BLB provided a background on the organisation and interactive instruction on basic baking for cookies or cake. Then there was a bake sale with a full menu of goods priced a la carte. All profits were used to help orphans and children in China, especially those who are handicapped, by providing funds for surgeries, wheelchairs, and other needs.

The Princeton Alumni Association of Beijing were invited to this speaker series event featuring David Wertime, Foreign Policy's Senior Editor, who talked about how information moves between the U.S. and China, how policy makers and average citizens should consume that information, and how existing Internet architecture could be used to raise the quality of information available about China.

Roundabout is a Beijing-based charity store that connects those who want to give with those in need. It raises funds that are used to benefit people in need such as the elderly, orphans, the disabled, and the ill. Roundabout has invited PAABJ to participate at one of their book sale fundraisers, where we volunteered from 12:30pm - 5:00pm.

We were honored to host a dinner discussion event with U.S. Treasury Attaché Michael Hirson. A Mandarin-speaking international economist, Michael was appointed as the Treasury Attaché in China last November. Michael joined PAABJ for an informal, off the record discussion on the Treasury’s engagement with China in light of The Third Plenum economic reform agenda. We provided this rare opportunity for participants to get their US-China relations questions answered by Treasury’s top rep in China, all over delicious Sichuan food.

Luckily for us, Valentine's Day and Lantern Festival Day happened to fall on the same day in 2014. We were glad to be supporting Alex Edmunds '09 's Coucou.com in this event. Fatface Food--the gourmet home-cooking experts--cooked up a Lantern festival all-you-can-eat dinner. After the dinner, there was a special Valentine's mixer with themed prizes for "most interesting person", "best potential lover", and so on.
